OUR FAVOURITE SHORTER WALKS

You don’t have to hike one of the famous Great Walks but you should definitely take in the natural beauty of the country with a hike. Check out these other, just as stunning, walks.

The Queen Charlotte track offers a spectacular journey by foot or bike through the Marlborough Sounds. Walk or ride through lush bush, around historic bays and along skyline ridges.

The pinnacles track climbs through ruggedly beautiful mountain ranges in the Coromandel Peninsula. It's one of New Zealand's most popular overnight walks.

The Copland to Welcome Flat is a popular hike, on the west coast of the South Island. It offers stunning forest, river and alpine vistas as it winds its way up the Copland Valley towards the Welcome Flat Hot Pools.

The Travers Sabine Circuit is an epic 80km journey traversing through mountains, forest and alongside rushing streams in the Nelson National Park. An advanced - extreme track, it requires a high level of skill.

The Rees and Dart Track near Wanaka allows you to hike along two magnificent river valleys enclosed by towering mountains. A glacier side trip adds to the adventure.

Stewart Island is a world where nature is very much in charge. On the Rakiura track you'll discover peace, birdsong and scenery that has barely changed in thousands of years.

If you're short of time (or fitness), you still don't have to miss out. Try one of these stunning day walks.

If you're in Northland check out Urupukapuka Island and archeological walk, Cape Brett Walkway or the Bay Of Islands Coastal Walkway

In Auckland there is the Rangitoto Summit Track, Coast to Coast walk or the Te Henga Walkway.

Around Hamilton don't miss the Te Araho Mountain Track , Te Waihou Walkway or Mangatautari Ecological Reserve

Ruapehu has the unforgettable Tonariro Alpine Crossing

If you're in the Coromandel don't miss the Coromandel Coastal Walkway, the Karangahake Gorge Historic Walkway or the Orakawa Bay Walk

In Waiarapa there is the Fensham Reserve Bush Walk, the Putangirua Pinnacles Scenic Reserve or Castlepoint.

Marlborough has some lovely short walks including Witherhills Farm Park, the Snout Track and Waikakaho Cullen Creek Walkway

In Nelson don't miss the Centre of New Zealand Walk,  Wharariki Beach or Medlands Beach Walk

The West Coast of the South Island is abundant with stunning walks. Try the Poporari River Track or the Franz Joseph WalkShip Creek or Lake Matheson.

In Christchurch don't miss the stunning Bridle Path Walk or further afield in Canterbury there's the Hooker Valley Track , Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway or Raikaia Gorge Walkway.

Lake Wanaka has a multitude of day walks, a few of our favourites are the Rob Roy Glacier Track , the Mt Iron Track and The Outlet Track.

Again, Queenstown is not short of day walks but we can recommend Jack's Point , Queenstown Hill Time Walk and the Ben Lomund Track.
