Day 7/7. The last hurrah of our winter week in Queenstown - a treat for the parents at Joe's Garage and a treat for the kids at Alpine Aqualand and The Remarkable Sweet Shop!

August 27, 2018

There's no better way to start the day in Queenstown than with a coffee from Joe's Garage.

From humble beginnings as a café in the old Queenstown Post office Sorting Room / Garage, Joes Garage is now a popular nationwide franchise (and happily for us has just opened in our hometown of Dunedin)! What I love most (apart from the great coffee) is how friendly all their staff are towards kids. Even when mine aren’t on their best behavior (despite all the usual threats / bribes) the staff always do their best to help entertain them.

We always like to do everything we can to tire the kids out before the 3.5 hour drive home. Luckily Queenstown has a great swimming complex where we can achieve just that for not much money. Alpine Aqualand is based in Frankton, so once the car was packed we headed on our way via a swim. The hydroslides are perfect for our five and three year old and they have a lazy river and fountain area that our one year old loved.

When you’re in Queenstown, be sure to visit The Remarkable Sweet Shop and taste their amazing range of home-made fudge - I recommend the crème Brûlée! Just like other parents before me, I had bribed my kids. If they went to sleep well every night of our holiday then on the last day they could choose something each from this lovely shop. As expected they chose the most artificial, sugary thing they could find but a promise is a promise hey!
